Disposable lifting slings DIN EN 60005 (so-called disposable slings)

Disposable lifting sling according to DIN 60005 Disposable lifting slings are manufactured in accordance with DIN 60005 and have a safety factor of 1:5, i.e. a sling with a load-bearing capacity WLL 1 t must achieve a breaking strength of at least 5 t. Disposable lifting slings are used for the transport of goods – from production to the end user. Do not sling different loads with the same disposable sling. At the end of the transport chain, they must be rendered unusable and disposed of.

Previous Situation:

Lifting slings, in particular endless lifting slings (web slings), which do not comply with the standard DIN EN 1492-1, have so far been referred to as so-called disposable slings. In deviation from the specifications of DIN EN 1492-1, these tapes have neither a colour coding nor a uniform and thus unambiguous labelling. They also do not have the minimum thickness of the tape specified in the standard.

They were intended for one-time use and were to be destroyed afterwards. The safety factor of these disposable slings should be 1:5 and is derived from the regulations of BGR 500.
In practice, however, these so-called disposable tapes were also used in the pre-slung process, although they were in no way intended for this purpose.

In some European countries, for example, such disposable belts were only produced with a safety factor of 1:4, which could then even be found in German factories and were wrongly used in the pre-slung process.

The DIN 60005

As a result of this, DIN 60005 was developed, with which there is now a clear basis for disposable lifting slings.

These must not be used after a single use.

What does DIN 60005:2005 specify?

  • The safety factor 1:5 applies, i.e. the minimum breaking load must correspond to 5 times the load-bearing capacity.
  • The minimum thickness of the tape fabric must be 1 mm.
  • The maximum sling width is 100 mm.
  • There is no color code.
  • An orange label is used to clearly identify the disposable lifting slings.
  • At the end of the transport chain, the disposable lifting sling must be destroyed.

Due to the entry into force of DIN 60005 and a possibly resulting DIN EN, there is no danger of confusion in Germany or Europe with regard to the DIN EN. concerning resilience.

Disposable or throw-away lifting slings can be found in practice in a wide variety of designs, e.g. as endless endless round slings or also as loop slings in different colours.
